Sergey Melnitchenko a reçu cette année le prix Leica Newcomer pour sa série photographique « Behind The Scenes » (En coulisse) où il montre en une suite de monochromes les danseuses d’un club douteux de Chengdu. L’artiste – après un long processus d’immersion fait éprouver tensions ou relaxations qui animent celles qui vont monter sur scène. Se sent parfois l’indifférence, parfois l’agacement de ses modèles face à son intrusion.

Son travail d’empathie a été favorisé par le fait que le photographe est aussi danseur. Il porte une attention au corps, aux gestes répétés sans cesse là où l’érotisme du show n’est pas encore de mise. Les « Girls » sont nimbées de couleurs dans lesquels elles infusent. Mais le charme tient autant aux effets de rapprochement des sujets – sans pour autant pénétrer de manière insistante l’intimité. Le photographe sait isoler chaque artiste, souligne sa solitude, sa concentration, son indifférence. L’atmosphère est tout autant huileuse que légère.

Aux aspects riants se substitue une gravité dotée d’une force étrange. Les temps se mélangent. Le présent s’annonce, se montre. Voir le présent revient à percevoir le « perdre voir » qu’entraîne le spectacle à venir. Le présent semble donc se dissoudre mais il est porté à un point où les formes pourront renaître encore. Sergey Melnitchenko pousse plus loin le risque au centre de l’Imaginaire. Son théâtre de la nudité n’a plus besoin de rideau. Surgit une forme de reconfiguration du pouvoir de représentation.
